Job Description
MAJOR FUNCTIONS: The full time Roll Off Driver keeps all 20- and 40-yard garbage containers from the County’s collection sites and facilities pulled and emptied on a regular basis . This position provides excellent customer service to the citizens of Union County as well as organizations both within and outside of the County. Normal work schedule for a Roll Off Driver is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 7:00am - 3:00pm; although, they may be called in to work additional hours or days, such as during disasters or emergencies. This position may work with inmate labor as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Hookup, transport, and unload waste cannisters from the County facilities to the New River Landfill.
- Keeping all containers and sites assigned to them cleaned, pulled, properly working, and ready for the work day.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all equipment used.
- Completing all necessary reports and forms and submitting them to the Solid Waste Director and Secretary for proper processing .
- Keep walking and work areas clean, including the trucks. T rucks should be cleaned out each day and washed whenever possible.
- Supervise an inmate helper and call in the inmate's location to the Department of Corrections Control Room per the rules for Non-DC Inmate Supervisors .
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS, AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of and ability to use several controls inside and outside of the vehicle to work the tarps, boom s, and cables.
- Knowledge and ability of basic equipment maintenance.
- Ability to receive written and/or oral directions and complete those directions.
- Ability to speak and/or signal to covey or exchange information.
- Ability to complete necessary reports and forms.
- Customer service skills.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must pass a pre-employment background check and physical.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Must possess an active CDL class B driver's license.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires occasional physical exertion and/or muscular strain. Opening cannister doors may require the help of an additional individual. Work involves exposure to extreme heat and cold , noise, strong odors, smoke, dust, pol l en and possible toxic or caustic conditions. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move between 10 and 50 pounds. Must possess the ability to sit and drive for long periods of time (at least 6 hours per day), as well as climb in and out of the truck at least 20 times per day.
