Location of Workplace Main UNCW Campus Brief Summary of Work for this Position The Human Resources (HR) Engagement Specialist plays a key role in supporting and enhancing employee relations and engagement initiatives. This position combines technical expertise with strong interpersonal skills to drive HR projects, systems, and processes that promote performance management, employee engagement, talent development, and retention. This position requires a proactive, detail-oriented professional with strong project management capabilities and a collaborative mindset. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, is highly analytical, and excels at problem-solving, process improvement, and clear communication. This is a fast-paced, customer-focused environment that demands a strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Performance Management Coordination - Oversees the performance management system, ensuring accurate setup, user access, and timely evaluations for all staff.
- Provides training, tracks participation, and serves as the go-to expert for performance-related processes and policies.
Employee Engagement & Recognition - Plans and executes employee engagement initiatives, including recognition programs, events, and professional development opportunities.
- Manages logistics, gathers feedback, and aligns activities with institutional goals to foster a positive workplace culture.
Administrative & Technical Support - Delivers administrative and technical support for HR programs, ensuring smooth operations and excellent service.
- Tracks compliance training, prepares reports, and assists with audits, communications, and employee inquiries.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Graduation from a four year college or university; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preferred education, professional skills and experience - One-year of HR assistant or administrative experience in a public higher education setting.
- Excellent verbal, written and positive interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of HR laws affecting policies and procedures.
- Strong analytical skills to examine and test business processes and recommend improvements that improve operational efficiencies.
- Ability to use systems and extract, compile, review and present data and information.
- Experience with the PeopleAdmin Applicant Tracking System or other comparable system.
- Experience with Banner or other comparable system.
- Ability to explain software use, databases, and related forms and tools to campus users.
- Experience with creating surveys, data collection, exporting and reporting data.
- Strong technical ability and proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, virtual meeting platforms, website management systems, and room reservation systems.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and meeting deadlines.
